The derailleur hanger bolt on a Specialized Tarmac SL6, SL7, or SL8 weighs just 2.9 g in stock steel — yet TiNE's Grade 5 titanium replacement drops it to 0.9 g, saving 2.0 g on a single fastener most riders overlook. It is one of the smallest bolts on the bike, and one of the easiest to swap.
Why does a 2.0 g saving matter on a bolt this small? The derailleur hanger bolt sits at the rear dropout — the point where your derailleur mounts to the frame. In a crash, this bolt and its hanger are designed to bend or break first, protecting the frame and derailleur body. TiNE's titanium version weighs far less than stock while maintaining the tensile strength needed for normal riding loads. Grade 5 Ti-6Al-4V is roughly 40% lighter than steel at comparable yield strength.
| Frame | Stock Hanger Bolt | TiNE Titanium | Saved | Percentage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tarmac SL6/SL7/SL8 | 2.9 g | 0.9 g | 2.0 g | 69% |
The derailleur hanger bolt secures the replaceable hanger to the right-side rear dropout on Tarmac SL6, SL7, and SL8 frames. This is the mounting point for the entire rear derailleur. Unlike SRAM UDH frames (which use a universal hanger design), Specialized Tarmac SL6/SL7/SL8 use a frame-specific hanger that bolts directly to the dropout — and this is the bolt TiNE replaces.
Key distinction: SL9 uses SRAM's Universal Derailleur Hanger (UDH) system — no bolt-style hanger attachment. TiNE's hanger bolt is specifically for SL6/SL7/SL8, which use a proprietary threaded hanger design. Do not attempt to use this bolt on a SL9 frame.
A 2.0 g saving on a single bolt may seem minor — but on a Tarmac SL8 where every gram is chased, it adds up quickly when combined with other TiNE upgrades:
| TiNE Upgrade | Saved |
|---|---|
| Derailleur hanger bolt (this product) | 2.0 g |
| Seatpost clamp head bolt | 12.4 g |
| SL8/S5 disc brake mount | 8.3 g |
| SL8 seatpost clamp | 8.1 g |
| Combined SL8 frame savings | 30.8 g+ |
Grade 5 Ti-6Al-4V, CNC machined, 8 anodized colors (gold, blue, rainbow, silver, black, pink, green, multi). The anodized surface prevents thread galling and keeps the dropout threads clean. Available for Tarmac SL6, SL7, SL8 — not compatible with SL9 (UDH system).
