What Is Inside a SRAM RED Shifter Steel Bolt Weight and Titanium Replacement

The SRAM RED shifter looks like a single molded unit from the outside, but inside there is a cluster of small steel bolts holding the body together. They are invisible during a ride and easy to forget about — until you realize they weigh more than twice what they need to.

Stock Steel: 23.8 Grams Across Both Shifters

The combined steel bolt weight across the left and right SRAM RED shifter is 23.8 g. That is not a number most riders know, because it is not listed anywhere in SRAM's spec sheet. It is the kind of weight that hides inside a component you already consider "light enough."

For context, 23.8 g is roughly the weight of two CO2 cartridges. It sits at the top of your handlebar, rotating every time you climb out of the saddle.

Titanium Replacement: 11.4 Grams

The TiNE SRAM RED shifter titanium bolt kit replaces every steel fastener in both shifters with Grade 5 Ti-6Al-4V hardware. The titanium set weighs 11.4 g — less than half the stock weight. The saving is 12.4 g, removed entirely from the handlebar zone.

Installation

The kit is a direct swap — every titanium bolt seats where the corresponding steel bolt came from. Standard hex keys handle the job. No torque specs beyond SRAM's factory recommendations, no shimming, no grinding. Open the shifter body, swap bolt for bolt, close it back up.

Where This Fits in a RED Build

The shifter bolt kit is one piece of a larger titanium hardware upgrade path for SRAM RED. The clamp rings — the brackets that mount each shifter to the bar — are another 22.8 g saving on their own. The full SRAM RED AXS bolt kit covers shifters, brakes, derailleur, and crank for a total reduction of 61.3 g.

If you are starting from a full stock RED AXS build and want to strip every gram of steel from the groupset, the shifter bolts are the most hidden savings — the ones nobody sees but you know about every time you wrap your hands around the levers.

Material

Grade 5 Ti-6Al-4V, CNC machined, anodized in eight colors: gold, blue, rainbow, silver, black, pink, green, and multi-color. The color is visible only when the shifter body is open during installation — a detail that matters to riders who photograph their builds.
