The headset top cap sits at eye level on every ride — the cockpit's crown. TiNE's topology-optimized titanium cap weighs as little as 4.2g. Here's how to pick the right version and swap it step by step.
TiNE offers five fit-specific versions: universal round (4.2g) for most headsets, Specialized Tarmac SL8/SL9 (6.0g), EXS Aerover (9.0g), Pinarello My25 (8.2g), Pinarello 2021-2024 (7.5g). Integrated frames need shape-matched caps — check your head tube profile.
Loosen the M6 top cap bolt with a 5mm Allen key. Unscrew fully and lift off the old cap. The compression plug stays inside the steerer — don't remove it. Stock caps weigh roughly 10-15g.
Drop the TiNE cap onto the headset. The topology optimization removes material from non-load zones — the result is a bionic sculpted surface that distributes clamp pressure across the bearing while shaving grams. Grade 5 Ti-6Al-4V, roughly 45% lighter than steel by density. The cap sits flush; no gap between cap and bearing cover.
Thread the M6 bolt through the TiNE cap into the compression plug by hand first. Snug until preload contacts the bearing — roughly 1-2 Nm, enough to eliminate play. The top cap sets preload only; stem bolts torque separately to manufacturer spec.
