The headset top cap is the most overlooked part on a road bike. It sits at the very top of the steerer, only exists to preload the bearings, and is the smallest piece of metal on the entire cockpit — yet the stock aluminum version typically weighs 10-15 g. That's a part doing one job, made from a heavy material, in a shape that hasn't been optimized since the 1990s.
A top cap only sees axial load from the stem bolt pulling down on it. The flat disc shape of a stock cap puts material everywhere — most of which does nothing. TiNE's titanium top cap uses topology optimization to remove material where stress is zero and reinforce the rib structure where the bolt head bears down. The result: a 4.2 g part that does the same job as a 10-15 g aluminum cap.

The TiNE universal top cap fits most 1-1/8" straight steerer tubes — that's the standard dimension on the majority of road bikes including rim brake and disc brake frames from the past two decades. The bionic rib pattern is on the underside (out of sight once installed) and the visible top surface is clean anodized titanium in any of TiNE's 8 colors.
For integrated (aero) headsets with non-round caps, the universal round version won't fit — those frames need the model-specific cap designed for their stem contour. The Tarmac SL8/SL9, for example, takes a dedicated 6.0 g cap that matches the Roval Rapide stem profile.
A 4.2 g top cap is a small individual swap, but it's part of the larger pattern: every TiNE titanium cockpit part is roughly half the weight of the equivalent aluminum or plastic stock piece. Combined savings across a full cockpit (stem cap bolt, top cap, stem faceplate bolts, water bottle bolts) typically land in the 30-50 g range — meaningful for a category where every gram at the front of the bike affects handling response.
