The Eclos titanium derailleur hanger is a single product family with a 9.5-gram weight spread. The lightest version — Specialized — weighs 11.7g; the heaviest — Cervelo S5 — reaches 21.2g. That is nearly double the weight for what looks like the same piece of titanium. The reason is not material choice or manufacturing tolerance. It is geometry: each frame brand requires a different hanger interface, and those interfaces vary far more than most riders realize.

Why 11.7g and 21.2g Are Both Correct

A derailleur hanger must match three things simultaneously: the frame's dropout shape, the derailleur's mounting bolt pattern, and the chain gap clearance. When a frame uses a deep, wrap-around dropout — like the Cervelo S5 with its fully internal cable routing through the rear triangle — the hanger body needs more material to bridge the gap between the dropout face and the derailleur mounting point. The Specialized dropout, by contrast, uses a compact flat interface that requires minimal bridging stock.

The UDH version at 16.3g sits near the middle because the universal standard demands a thicker body to accommodate multiple frame shapes within a single specification. It is heavier than Specialized but lighter than the deep-dropout designs.

Topology Optimization Across Six Shapes

Every Eclos hanger uses the same topology-optimized design language — organic load paths that remove material where stress is low and reinforce where it is high. But the starting geometry differs for each frame brand, so the optimization runs independently. A Specialized hanger starts from a compact envelope and arrives at 11.7g; a Cervelo S5 hanger starts from a larger envelope and arrives at 21.2g. The topology result reflects the constraint, not the algorithm.

This also means that the weight saving percentage is more consistent than the absolute weight. Stock hangers tend to scale proportionally with their interface complexity, so the titanium replacement saves a similar fraction across all versions — even though the gram values differ by nearly 10g.
