SRAM RED XPLR Titanium Bolt Kit and Shifter Screw Upgrade Combo

If you read our guide on the SRAM RED XPLR 13S titanium bolt kit, you know it drops 56.4g from your gravel bike by replacing 41 steel fasteners across shifters, brakes, shifting, and chainring. But there's a second upgrade that works alongside it: a dedicated SRAM RED shifter screw kit that goes deeper into the hydraulic lever assembly and removes another 12.4g of steel. Together, the two kits save 68.8g — without any overlapping parts.

Two Kits, Two Jobs: No Overlapping Parts

The RED XPLR 13S bolt kit covers the parts of the group set that every rider interacts with: caliper mounting, disc rotors, derailleur pivot, crank spider, and the basic shifter housing fasteners. The RED shifter screw kit goes further — into the internal lever hardware that the group set kit doesn't touch. Specifically, the shifter kit replaces the fixing nut, clamp washer, bleed port screw, and hose locking screw on each lever with heavier-duty titanium versions, bringing the shifter section alone from 23.8g down to 11.4g.

That's a key distinction: the XPLR kit's shifter portion saves 4.2g, while the standalone shifter kit saves 12.4g from the same general area. They're not the same bolts. The XPLR kit handles the external shifter-to-bar interface; the shifter kit handles the internal lever fasteners. You can install both, and the combined saving from the shifter area alone is 16.6g.

Kit What It Covers Titanium Stock Saving
RED XPLR 13S bolt kit Shifters, disc brakes, shifting, chainring 82.4g 138.8g 56.4g
RED shifter screw kit Internal lever fasteners (L+R) 11.4g 23.8g 12.4g
Combined All of the above, no overlap 93.8g 162.6g 68.8g

How 68.8g Breaks Down by Area

To put the combined saving in perspective, here's what 68.8g looks like on a gravel bike:

1.Disc brake calipers (including mounts): 14.2g saved — the single largest chunk, driven by the front disc mount dropping from 12g to 6.5g

2.Chainring: 8.9g saved — crank bolt, spider bolts, crank cap, and internal lock disc covers

3.Shifter internals (from the dedicated kit): 12.4g — the lever fixing nuts and clamp washers are surprisingly heavy in steel

4.Shifter externals (from the XPLR kit): 4.2g — hose locking screws and bleed port screws

5.Shifting components: 2.3g — XPLR derailleur pivot axle and guide pulley screws

The shifter area deserves attention. Stock, the two SRAM RED levers carry 30.7g of steel fasteners between them (23.8g internal + 6.9g external). With both titanium kits installed, that drops to 14.1g — a 16.6g reduction from the shifters alone. On a gravel bike where bar bag, lights, and GPS mount are already crowding the cockpit, lighter levers contribute to a cleaner-handling front end.

Who Should Consider Both Kits

If you're running a full SRAM RED XPLR 13-speed group set and want maximum weight reduction without switching components, installing both kits is the complete upgrade path. The XPLR bolt kit handles the drivetrain and brakes; the shifter screw kit handles the lever internals. Together they cover every steel fastener SRAM ships on the group set.

For riders who already have the XPLR bolt kit installed, adding the shifter screw kit is a straightforward secondary upgrade — same Allen keys, same workspace, and 12.4g further reduction from the parts you haven't touched yet.

Material and Installation

Both kits use Grade 5 Ti-6Al-4V titanium, CNC machined with standard hex fittings. Eight anodized colors are available: gold, blue, rainbow, silver, black, pink, green, and purple. No special tools are required beyond the hex set you already carry. Titanium's natural corrosion resistance is particularly relevant for gravel riding, where mud, water crossings, and post-ride hose-downs expose fasteners to more moisture than road cycling.
