The disc brake mount on the Specialized Tarmac SL8 and S5 — the bracket that secures the front caliper to the fork — is a hidden weight penalty. The stock mount weighs 14.2 g for the SL8/S5-specific version, and roughly 14 g for the universal version. TiNE's titanium replacement drops it to 5.9 g for the SL8/S5 version and 7.5 g for the universal fit, saving up to 8.3 g at the fork tip.

Universal version (7.5 g) — fits standard flat-mount disc brake forks that use the conventional mounting pattern. The stock universal mount weighs roughly 14 g in alloy, and TiNE's titanium version saves approximately 6.5 g.

The sunk screw design on the SL8/S5 version is what makes the weight difference so dramatic — 8.3 g saved versus 6.5 g on the universal version. The SL8/S5 stock mount requires more material to accommodate the sunk screw threading and fork blade integration.
