Titanium Water Bottle Cage — Bolt Upgrade Guide

A titanium water bottle cage upgrade starts with the bolts. Four fasteners determine whether your cage stays tight or loosens — and whether you can remove them next season without a drill.

Steel cage bolts seize in aluminum bosses — you drill or break the boss. Titanium changes that.

Cage Bolt Basics

Most cages use M5 bolts: M5×10 for thin wrap-around (Elite Crono) and M5×14 for thick structured (Specialized Rib). Steel corrodes and seizes at the thread. Titanium resists seizing far better and weighs significantly less.

Key Specs

M5×10 Weight TiNE titanium: 0.7g vs ~1.2g steel. Thin cages.
M5×14 Weight TiNE titanium: 0.8g vs ~1.4g steel. Thick cages.
Material Grade 5 Ti-6Al-4V, CNC machined. Far better corrosion resistance than steel.
Colors 8 anodized options — gold, blue, rainbow, silver, black, pink, green, dream.

Weight Comparison

Four Cage Bolts Total
~4.8g (steel) ~2.8g (TiNE)
~2g saved · far less seizing risk

FAQ

Do titanium bolts hold cages as firmly?

Yes — Ti-6Al-4V tensile strength (~950 MPa) is significantly higher than steel at this size. Grip is equal or better.

Which length for my cage?

Thin wrap-around: M5×10. Thick structured: M5×14. At least 6mm thread engagement past the cage body.

Install torque?

Hand-tight plus quarter turn. No torque wrench needed for M5 titanium in aluminum bosses.
