Here is a fact that surprises most Shimano 105 riders: when you swap to a titanium bolt kit, your groupset sheds more weight than an Ultegra or Dura-Ace owner's. Not because the TiNE kit is different — it is identical at 69.9g across all three groups — but because the 105 R7170 carries far more steel to begin with.
The stock 105 R7170 bolt set weighs 179.3g. Replace it with the TiNE titanium kit at 69.9g, and you remove 109.4g — over 61% of the original bolt weight. That is a significant chunk of weight from a component most riders never think about.
Shimano uses steel fasteners throughout the 105 groupset. At the lever, the bolt that secures the hydraulic line weighs nearly double what a titanium equivalent does. At the caliper, the bleed port screw is a small but unnecessary weight contributor. At the derailleur, the pivot bolt, limit screws, tension screw, and jockey wheel screw all add up. Individually, each is a few grams. Together, they account for over 179g of rotating and unsprung mass.
Ultegra and Dura-Ace use lighter hardware from the factory, which is why the gap narrows as you move up the range. But the 105 rider starts with the heaviest bolts — and therefore has the most to gain.
| Groupset | Stock Bolts | TiNE Kit | Weight Saved |
| 105 R7170 | 179.3g | 69.9g | 109.4g (61%) |
| Ultegra R8170 | 145.3g | 69.9g | 75.4g (52%) |
| Dura-Ace R9270 | 117.7g | 69.9g | 47.8g (41%) |
The TiNE Shimano titanium bolt kit replaces fasteners across the entire groupset — levers, calipers, front derailleur, rear derailleur, and crankset. Every bolt is CNC machined from Grade 5 Ti-6Al-4V and available in eight anodized colors. The kit is version-specific: one for 105 R7170, one for Ultegra R8170, one for Dura-Ace R9270, each with the correct bolt lengths and thread pitches for that group.
Because the TiNE kit weighs the same 69.9g regardless of groupset version, the mathematics are simple: the heavier your stock bolts, the more you save. A 105 rider gets roughly 2.3 times the weight reduction of a Dura-Ace rider from the same upgrade.
For context, 109g is roughly the weight of a full water bottle cage bolt set plus a saddle rail clamp — or about half a gel packet. It is not a transformative number on its own, but it comes from a part of the bike where every gram matters: rotating and unsprung mass. Bolts at the derailleur, caliper, and lever are all part of the unsprung weight, and reducing unsprung mass improves suspension responsiveness and handling feel on rough roads.
Combine the TiNE Shimano bolt kit with the TiNE SL9 frame bolt kit (8.3g vs 19.7g stock, saving 11.4g) and you are looking at a total reduction of roughly 120g for the 105 rider — all from fasteners alone.
Key Takeaway
TiNE kit: 69.9g (same for 105 / Ultegra / Dura-Ace)
105 R7170 saves 109.4g — the most of any groupset
Ultegra R8170 saves 75.4g — Dura-Ace R9270 saves 47.8g
Material: Grade 5 Ti-6Al-4V, CNC, 8 anodized colors
Stack with SL9 frame bolt kit for roughly 120g total savings (105)
