The seatpost clamp on the Specialized Tarmac SL8 — the collar that locks the seatpost into the frame — weighs 12.5 g in stock form. TiNE's titanium clamp replacement drops that to 4.4 g, saving 8.1 g right at the frame-to-seatpost junction.
The SL8 also has a variant for the SL7 version at 3.5 g (saving approximately 8~9 g versus the SL7 stock clamp). Both clamps use TiNE's CNC titanium construction with 8 anodized color options.
Step 1 — Identify your Tarmac version. The SL8 and SL7 use different seatpost clamp profiles. The SL8 clamp has a wider collar geometry to match the SL8 seat tube shape, while the SL7 clamp is narrower. TiNE makes specific versions for each: 4.4 g for SL8, 3.5 g for SL7. Confirm your frame model before ordering.
Step 2 — Remove the stock alloy clamp. Open the existing clamp bolt, slide the stock alloy collar off the seat tube. The stock clamp is a single-piece alloy ring with an integrated bolt boss — relatively heavy for what it does.
Step 3 — Install the TiNE titanium clamp. Slide the TiNE clamp onto the seat tube, align the bolt hole with the frame slot, insert the TiNE titanium bolt, and torque to the frame manufacturer's recommended specification. The TiNE clamp uses the same bolt threading and seat tube interface as the stock version — direct swap, no modifications needed.
Step 4 — Verify alignment and torque. Confirm the seatpost slides freely through the clamp without binding, and that the clamp bolt engages smoothly. The CNC titanium construction ensures precise dimensional matching with the stock interface — no gap tolerance issues or ovalization from casting imperfections.
Tip: The seatpost clamp sits at the junction between the frame and seatpost — a position where road spray from the rear wheel and sweat from the rider both accumulate. Titanium's corrosion resistance is a practical advantage here, far better than the stock alloy which can develop surface oxidation over time in wet conditions.
